Honors and Awards

2017 AASECT Book Award (American Association for Sexuality Counselors, Educators, and Therapists). This award is given to the authors of a book that make a significant contribution to AASECT’s vision of sexual health and to the clinical educational standards of the field.
2017 Integrative Approaches to Sex Therapy Award (American Association for Sexuality Counselors, Educators, and Therapists).  The Integrative Approaches to Sex Therapy Award is for creative applications of an integrative and interactive approach to sexual issues in clinical work with individual, couples, groups and/or supervisees of all ages, genders, and other diversities. Nominees have demonstrated a clinical consciousness that is multidimensional: inclusive of some combination of physical, emotional, cognitive, and/or spiritual dimensions of sexual experience, along with relational and/or social contexts.
2014 Barrick Scholar (UNLV). The Barrick Scholar Award is designed to recognize faculty members who have established a record of distinguished research or have demonstrated excellence in the area of creative activity. This award is based principally on the quality and quantity of research publication or creative activity, which is judged to be extraordinary and distinguished. Only full-time tenured or tenure-track faculty who have completed at least three years of full-time employment at UNLV prior to the application deadline are eligible for these awards. The award is presented to faculty members with fewer than 10 years of service in an academic environment after the terminal degree, carries a $2,500 stipend.
2014 Regent’s Rising Researcher Award (Board of Regents, Nevada System of Higher Education).This award is presented annually to one Nevada System of Higher Education faculty member from University of Nevada-Las Vegas, University of Nevada-Reno, and Desert Research Institute. Awards are based on early-career accomplishments and potential for future advancement and recognition in research.
2014 Greenspun College of Urban Affairs Outstanding Teaching Award (UNLV) – This award is given to the top teacher within the college, among 7 departments
2013 Outstanding Mentor Award (Graduate and Professional Student Association, UNLV ). This award is designed to acknowledge UNLV faculty who have demonstrated continued success in preparing graduate and professional students for academia.
2013 Supervisor of the Year(Nevada Association for Marriage and Family Therapy). This award is given based on the nominations or the members of the Nevada Association for Marriage and Family Therapy in recognition of supervisory skill.
2011 Reviewer of the Year Award (Journal of Marital and Family Therapy). This award is given to 4 reviewers of the Journal of Marital and Family Therapy who submit review the most quickly and are of the best quality. 2011 was the first year of this award.
2010 Greenspun College of Urban Affairs Outstanding Research Award (UNLV)– This award is given to the top producer of research within the college, among 7 departments.
2008 Greenspun College of Urban Affairs Outstanding Teaching Award (UNLV) – This award is given to the top teacher (as evidenced by classroom observation by a committee, teaching philosophy, established learning outcomes, rigor of assignments, syllabi review, and evaluations) within the college, among 7 departments.
2003 James D. Moran III Memorial Dissertation Award (Virginia Tech) – Received first place in an award program for graduate students in the College of Human Sciences and Education at Virginia Tech whose thesis or dissertation research addresses issues faced by individuals and families within various environments throughout the life span.
2002 AAMFT Graduate Student Research Award – Received first place in a national competition among graduate student research projects in the field of marriage and family therapy for my dissertation research on Internet infidelity.
2000 Purdue University Graduate Research Award – Received first place in a university-wide competition for graduate student research projects. I received this award for my thesis on infidelity.
