CATALOG DESCRIPTION:
CALCULUS II (4 semester
hours) contains
techniques and applications of integration; series; parametric equations and
polar coordinates. The topical outline of course objectives is the
following:
| Chapter 6 |
Techniques of Integrations |
| Chapter 7 |
Applications of
Integrations |
| Chapter 8 |
Series |
| Chapter 9 |
Parametric Equations and
Polar Coordinates |
PREREQUISITE:
Math 181.
LEARNING OUTCOMES:
The students will be able to solve
integration problems using the method of trigonometric substitution, as well as
calculate the radius of convergence and interval of convergence of appropriate
series.
TEST AND GRADING POLICY:
There will be five (40 minutes)
quizzes, a (75 minutes) midterm exam, and a (2 hours) final exam. The
lowest quiz will be dropped. Each quiz is worth 10%, and each exam is worth 30%.

quizzes and your performance in the class.
CLASS POLICIES:
HOMEWORK:
The homework problems that you should
work after each lecture are on the assignment list. You are required to do
the homework outside of class for each section after we have
completed the lesson, and bring your homework questions to the graduate assistant
in the breakout session, where, the graduate assistant will answer your
any
questions about the homework.
ATTENDANCE:
You are expected to attend class
regularly. If you miss a class for any reason, you are responsible for all
material covered, announcements made in your absence, and acquiring
materials that may have been distributed in class.
MISSED EXAMS:
You will have one opportunity to make
up a test one day before or after the schedule, however, you must provide
sufficiently documental reason for me why you have to miss the test at least
three days before the schedule.
CALCULATORS:
A graphics calculator is useful as a study
and learning tool when used appropriately. However, calculus is a collection of
ideas which are not mastered through calculator skills only. Note that no
calculator is allowed on all tests.
ACADEMIC INTEGRITY:
Academic integrity is the pursuit of scholarly
activity in an open, honest and responsible manner. Academic integrity is a
basic guiding principle for all academic activity at
University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and all members of the University community are expected to act in
accordance with this principle. Consistent with this expectation, the
University's Code of Conduct states that all students should act with personal
integrity, respect other students' dignity, rights and property, and help create
and maintain an environment in which all can succeed through the fruits of their
efforts.
Academic integrity includes a commitment not to engage in or
tolerate acts of falsification, misrepresentation or deception. Such acts of
dishonesty violate the fundamental ethical principles of the University
community and compromise the worth of work completed by others.
Based on the University's
Student
Academic Misconduct Policy, a range of academic sanctions may be
taken against a student who engages in academic dishonesty.
IMPORTANT NOTICE:
Students are required to attend a
MANDATORY presentation regarding the online evaluations, tutor clinic and
other tutoring options offered. The presentation dates will be listed on the
following website at
www.unlv.edu/math/math_clinic.html and students will be able to sign
up for these presentations by email at
