Summary
of Professional Background Dr. Stahura is an associate professor in
the college of hotel administration at the University of Nevada at Las
Vegas. He completed his undergraduate studies in History and Sociology
at the University of Wisconsin. He then received his M.A. and Ph.D. at
the University of Minnesota where he graduated Phi Kappa Phi with
degrees in Sport Sociology. He has taught courses at both the
undergraduate level and graduate level in sport sociology, research
methods, ethics in sport, legal issues in sport, organizational theory
and administration in sport settings and sport psychology. Dr. Stahura
has published over 20 articles appearing in regional, national and
international journals and has over 80 presentations. His scholarly
pursuits have brought him to China, Greece, Canada and around the
United States. His early research interest focused on race and gender
issues in sport as well as the social trends within intercollegiate as
well as professional sport. His more recent scholarship has
investigated the dynamics of youth sport, particularly issues
surrounding specialization, the role of parents and the privatization
of sport or the rise of the sport clubs. Dr. Stahura has coached soccer
and hockey at the youth, high school and college level. Dr. Stahura has
also served on several administrative boards, including the Jonesboro
Park and Recreation Department and as President of the Jonesboro YMCA.
Dr. Stahura is married and enjoys playing golf.
