Geography Quiz #1: The Colonies and the the US The first geo quiz will consist of two parts.
In the first part, you will be asked to locate the thirteen original colonies
on a blank of the eastern American seaboard.
(Lines defining the borders of the colonies/states
will be provided). In part two, you will be asked to identify
all the states of the union in 1860 and to indicate which of
them were slave states and which were free states. For this quiz
you need not concern yourself with territories that had not yet
become states. Gordon Wood's American Revolution has some
useful maps on colonial period, while a map of free and slave states
is available below, as are b lank maps for study:

Geography Quiz #2: The USSR in 1936 On a blank map, you should be able to locate
the following republics of the USSR, as they appeared in 1936: Russian Soviet
Federated Socialist Republic, Ukrainian SSR,
Belorussian SSR, Georgian SSR, Armenian SSR, Azerbaijan
SSR, Kazakh SSR, Uzbek SSR, Turkmen SSR, Kirgiz SSR, and
Tadjik SSR. You should also be able to identify the USSR's
neighbors: Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania,
Turkey, Iran, Afghanistan, China, Mongolia, and Korea.

Geography Quiz #3: Iran On a blank map you should be able to locate the
following countries, as the situation appeared
in 1980 or so: Turkey, the USSR, Syria, Iraq,
Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan., Lebanon, Israel, Jordan,
Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Qatar, United Arab Emirates,
and Oman. You should also be able to locate the fllowing
bodies of water: Mediterranean Sea, Red Sea, Black Sea, Caspian
Sea, Persian Gulf, Straits of Hormuz, and the Gulf of Oman. Finally,
you should be able to locate the following cities (in Iran): Tehran,
Qom, Esfahan, Tabriz; and (in Iraq): Baghdad and Al Basrah.
