Walker, Thompson, and Landau (all in the Department
of Biological Sciences, UNLV) are working on a long
term project assessing plant ecology and rodent ecology
along a well developed elevation gradient in the Spring
Mountains of southern Nevada (Lucky Strike Canyon).
Current emphases include seedling survival and distribution
of rodent mounds associated with perennial shrubs.
Stark's contribution is in the assessment of the biological
soil crust at different elevations and under different
shrub species.
