Cognitive Psychology PSY 416.01 Spring 2004
Instructor: Karen A. Kemtes, Ph.D. Office: CDC 620 Telephone: 895-2641 E-mail: kkemtes@unlv.nevada.edu Office hours: Tuesdays and Wednesdays 5:00p - 7:00p
Important Note About Exam 3 Students who completed Exam 3 have the option to revise and resubmit their responses to earn up to 1/2 of the missed points on the exam. For example, a student who received 25/50 on the exam could earn up to 37.5/50 by rewrting it. That’s a change from an F to a B. As explained in class, you will need to download the exam questions (here), find the correct responses to the multiple choice, matching, or short answer questions, write a 1-2 sentence justification for each response, and turn in the corrected exam no later than Tuesday May 4th at 7:00pm. You do not need to fill out another scantron form. My recommendation is to type your answers and justifications into the downloaded question document (delete the questions you answered correctly), save the file, email it to me or bring it to class on Tuesday.
Important note for students who missed the first week(s) of class: 1) Send me an email to let me know that you've added the class. 2) Download the syllabus and check for important assignment due dates. 3) Download the Student Information form, fill it out, and email it to Dr. Kemtes before the next class meeting. 4) Download the Presentation Preference sheet, fill it out, and email it to Dr. Kemtes before the next class meeting.

Advanced Learning Opportunities Students who plan to attend graduate school in psychology (and related fields) are encouraged to expand their working knowledge of cognitive psychology by participating in and reading about original cognitive psychology experiments. Two options are available: (1) Complete psychology experiments on the computers in the psychology computer laboratory. To access the experiments and associated readings, please follow the directions in the guides below; (2) Join research research projects in progress in Dr. Kemtes’ laboratory (or another faculty member) to obtain first-hand experience. If you plan to attend graduate school, it is recommended that you begin working on option (2) as soon as possible. Graduate schools (especially those in psychology) want you to have research experience before you apply. Talk to Dr. Kemtes about research opportunities available in her lab (kkemtes@unlv.nevada.edu).
