- For Aug. 31: Read "On the Study of Philosophy" (1-6), "The Value of Philosophy" (9-12), and Nagel, Chapter 1.
- For Sept. 3: Read Apology: Defense of Socrates (27-42).
- For Sept. 7: Find examples of deductive and inductive arguments in Plato's Apology. My Logic Poem may help you keep track of some of the basic logical concepts.
- For Sept. 10: Read "The Ontological Argument" (pp. 45-46). You might want to check out the musical version too.
- For Sept. 14: Class cancelled.
- For Sept. 17: Read "Meditation V" from Meditations on First Philosophy (pp. 131-133).
- For Sept. 19: Read "The Existence of God" (pp. 47-49).
- For Sept. 24: Start on Parts II-V of Dialogues on Natural Religion (pp. 57-71).
- For Sept. 26: Finish Parts II-V of Dialogues on Natural Religion.
- For Sept. 28: Get started on the First Paper Assignment. The paper is due Friday, Oct. 5th. Be sure also to read my Paper Requirements and Policies.

- For Nov. 9: Read Taylor's "Freedom and Determinism" (pp. 437-449).
- For Nov. 12: Read Frankfurt's "Freedom of the Will and the Concept of a Person" (pp. 450-459).
- For Nov. 19: Read Nagel, Chapter 7.
- For Nov. 26: Read the excerpt (Chapters 1, 2, 3, and 4) from Mill's Utilitarianism (pp. 486-502) and Carritt's "Criticisms of Utilitarianism" (pp. 503-505).
- For Nov. 30: Read Williams's "Utilitarianism and Integrity" (pp. 512-520). Also, get started on the Second Paper Assignment.
- For Dec. 3: Read Kant's Groundwork of the Metaphysics of Morals (pp. 529-545).
- For Dec. 7: Read O'Neill's "Kantian Approaches to Some Famine Problems" (pp. 546-551).
- For Dec. 10: Second Paper due by 5pm.
- For Dec. 17: Review session at 7pm in Blair 223.
