Active Directory Computer Names
- Problem: trying to change a computer name in Windows 7 but the new name already
existing in the Windows 2008 R2 domain, so how do I delete the name from Active
Directory and then change the computer name?

- Start → Administrative Tools →

- JourneyEdu.local domain → Computers
- right click on the computer and select delete. Should now be able to
rename the client/workstation computer

- How to add a user?
- Option 1: Use the Local Users and Group Management Console lusrmgr.msc
at the command prompt or Start -> Run
- Option 2: Start -> Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management

- Then make the user a member of a group
- Option 1:
- right click on the username and select Properties.
- Click the Member Of tab. Then click the Add button.
- In the Select Groups window, type in Administrator then click the
Check Names button. Finally click OK.
- Option 2:
- click the groups folder
- right click on Administrators and select Add to Group

- click the Add button
- type in the username then click the Check Names button
- should see the username under Members section
- How to Enable Remote Desktop for Administration
- Start -> Control Panel -> System
- Remote tab, click Allow users to connect remotely to your computer
check box, and then click ok
- Remote Desktop uses Port 3389, so check this is open on your firewall
- If using another port, try 192.168.1.1: 22229 where 22229 is the open port
- How to add a user to Remote Desktop
- Start -> Control Panel -> System then click the Remote tab
- Check the Enable Remote Desktop on this computer checkbox
- Click the Select Remote Users... button
- Click the Add... button on the Remote Desktop Users window
- type in the username you want to grant access to Remote Desktop into this server
- click the Check Names button
- click Ok button, Ok button and finally the OK button on System Properties

Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Communications -> Remote
Desktop Connection. Then enter in the domain name or IP address of the server
