| I am looking for interested undergraduates to participate in the research. This can be done several different ways, depending on your interests, needs, and availability of funds. I generally expect UNLV students to commit, in principle, to at least one calendar year of research including at least one summer. Several avenues exist to fund highly qualified students. If I agree to having you join the lab I will assist you to obain funding. Funding opportunities are outlined below. You should also be aware that you can obtain credit for research through Biology 492, which is described below. Bio 492 Undergraduate Research: Special problems in some field of the biological sciences for investigation and report. May be repeated to a maximum of eight credits. Prerequisites: Two years of biological sciences and consent of instructor. 1-3 credits per semester. NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program: This is a highly competitive summer research fellowship funded by the National Science Foundation. Applications for summer are due in early March. For more information read here. Other opportunities exist on other campuses - read here. Nevada EPSCoR Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP): This program is also funded by the National Science Foundation. It offers fellowships for undergraduate research over the summer (applications due early March) and during the academic year. For more information read here. |
