Summer 2005 Mono Lake
Duane Moser of DRI (yellow shirt) and I talk about differences in chemistry between the salty, oxygenated mixolimnion of Mono Lake, CA (background) and a fresh, anaerobic spring feeding into it (in front of my feet) and how mixing of these two systems produces tufa towers and a thermodynamic disequilibrium microbes take advantage of. The trip was part of a 2005 outreach effort for Nevada high school science teachers sponsored by NASA EPSCoR.
