Getting Started

SurveyTool is an SQL based software application for creating web surveys, quizzes and polls. SurveyTool is an application titled SelectSurvey.NET from ClassApps.

The following instructions describe how to use some of the basic features in SurveyTool. The instructions will walk you through such tasks as logging in, creating and editing an event, uploading files, viewing totals, and editing a template. Many other features, which are not documented here, are also available.

To get the most out of this application, please read through the various administration screens as you create your event items. As you become more comfortable with the program, feel free to experiment with the options available under the various pull-down menus.

TIP: For the purposes of these instructions, the word "event" will be used to refer to the surveys, polls and quizzes you create with SurveyTool.

Logging into SurveyTool

REGISTERED USERS: Click the Login Now button. At the login screen, enter your user id and password.

NEW USERS: Send an e-mail to surveytooladmin@unlv.edu to request a user ID and password.

Creating a Survey, Quiz or Poll

1. On the home page of SurveyTool. Choose the log into the application option.

2. Fill in the Username and Password fields.

3. You'll be transferred to the Manage Surveys page.

4. Here you will be presented with a listing of all surveys you have. If you have no surveys created, you'll see a message indicating so. Click on the Create New Survey option.

5. Enter a title for your survey.

6. You'll have two choices. If you don't have any previous surveys or wish to start a fresh survey from scratch. Select the From Scratch option. If you have a previously existing survey you wish to use as the basis for your new survey, choose the Copy questions, options...radio button.

7. Select the Save option.

8. You'll move to the next page which is fairly simple. To begin inserting questions, select the Insert option. To set the survey variables, choose the Edit option.

9. If you choose to begin entering questions, you'll be able to edit the variables at any time you choose. You'll also be able to set the event from Design mode to Open or Closed mode.

10. If you choose to edit the properties of the survey, you'll find a number of options. For a comprehensive description of these options and their functions, please take a few minutes to read the User Manual.

Logging Out

For security purposes use the Logout link at the top of the survey management screen and close your browser when done using the survey tool.
