Discontinuation of EventHandler Accounts A note about EventHandler: The application is a legacy application originally created for online contests. In support of UNLV's evolution as a research university, a new application dedicated to surveys has been implemented. All new account requests for EventHandler will be automatically turned into account for SurveyTool. Existing EventHandler account holders will continue to be supported on EventHandler but are encouraged to begin transitioning to SurveyTool. While there is no definite end date in sight for EventHandler, we believe that SurveyTool is a superior application for faculty and staff. EventHandler is a legacy software application for creating web surveys, quizzes, polls, and contests. The following instructions describe how to use some of the basic features in EventHandler. The instructions will walk you through such tasks as logging in, creating and editing an event, uploading files, viewing totals, and editing a template. Many other features, which are not documented here, are also available. To get the most out of this application, please read through the various administration screens as you create your event items. As you become more comfortable with the program, feel free to experiment with the options available under the various pull-down menus. TIP: For the purposes of these instructions, the word "event" will be used to refer to the surveys, polls, quizzes, and contests you create with this application. REGISTERED USERS: Click the Login Now button. At the login screen, enter your user id and password. Click the Save Login box if you'd like your web browser to remember your login and password. NEW USERS: Send an e-mail to kody.kearns@unlv.edu to request a user ID and password. Creating a Survey, Quiz, Poll, or Contest 1. 7. Proceed down the page to the section under Event Settings & Variables. 8. Read each section and complete information as appropriate. Just skip the item or take your best guess and see what happens. 9. Click the Set Event Variables button when you're finished choosing your preliminary settings. This step also creates the input boxes for your form. 10. You will see a screen that says Update Complete. Choose the Click here link to return to the Event Variables screen. Scroll to the bottom of the page to enter your questions. Click the Set Event Variables button to save your changes. 1. If this is a new session, log into EventHandler. 2. A new web page will be displayed showing your entries. 4. Click Delete w/ Backup to save the entry to a file. Keep in mind that you'll have to contact the Somebody should you need to have the file recovered. Click Delete w/o Backup to completely remove the entry (preferred method as this reduces unnecessary waste of disk space). EventHandler automatically displays event totals after someone completes your form. If you'd prefer to have the script return a static web page, such as a thank you page, you'll need to do the following: 1. Create the web page using your favorite text or HTML editor. 2. Log into EventHandler. 3. Under Event Administration, choose Upload File. Enter the location of the file or choose Browse to scan through your hard drive. Once you've found your file, click Upload File. 4. The next screen will show you the URL of the file you've just uploaded. Make a note of this. It should be something like this: http://faculty.unlv.edu/EventHandler/users/ 5. Under Event Administration, choose Event Settings. 6. Select your event item and click Modify Event. 7. Scroll down to the Static Pages section. Under Correct Redirect URL, enter the URL of the file you just uploaded. 8. Click Set Event Variables to save your changes. EventHandler does not provide a logout screen. To quit the application, go to another URL or close your browser window. |
