MUS 121 - Music Appreciation

This course will provide a general introduction to music literature, with particular emphasis on the development of listening techniques.  In addition, it will focus on the historical and cultural background of music and the analysis of representative works.

Purpose: The purpose of this course is
1. To provide students with information knowledge of the basic elements of music.
2. To introduce the student to the Western art music tradition and trace its development.
3. To study the influence of government, social structure, religions and other factors on
 music and other art forms.
4. To provide students with the opportunity to listen to and study music of the Western art
 tradition through recorded music and live music performance.
5. To broaden the student’s listening experience.
