Research Interests

My research interests include investigating cis-regulatory elements in the mushroom body of Drosophila melanogaster. The identification of cis-regulatory elements and transcription factor binding sites in the regulatory regions of genes has always been a challenging aspect of molecular biology. Using self-organizing maps and motif searching, we hope to successfully probe the regulatory regions of genes expressed in the mushroom bodies of Drosophila melanogaster and extract information about transcription factor binding in cis-regulatory sequences. The methods by which these regulatory elements control expression in the mushroom body in memory consolidation during the life in the fruit fly are still largely unknown.
