Dr. Allen received his Ph.D. in clinical psychology from the University of South Dakota in 1993, with an emphasis in Neuropsychology and completed his internship and post-doctoral studies at the VA Medical Center in Pittsburgh, PA. He came to UNLV from Pittsburgh where he worked as a staff psychologist and held an appointment at the University of Pittsburgh in the Department of Neurology. Research interests include neuropsychological approaches to understanding schizophrenia and substance use disorders. His most recent research focuses on individuals with schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, traumatic brain injury, and child maltreatment.
