Homework Policy and Assignment

Homework Policy (Fall 2009)

  • Click here for pdf version of homework to print.
  • Written homework is assigned for all sections covered in class. This assignment typically consists of selected problems presented at the end of each section in your book, with a few supplemental problems. You are requested to do all the written homework after discussion in lecture and before the next class period. You may need to do more problems as needed for mastery of the material. The written homework will NOT be collected and graded.
  • Online homework is collected via WebAssign for all sections covered in class. These exercises are a subset of the written problems assigned. You are requested to do all these problems on or before the due date/time. Online homework is due each Sunday at 11:59PM PST and covers all sections presented that week during lecture. Late submissions will not be accepted. You have five chances for submission, the last submission will be the grade recorded. (go to Web Assign for online homework).  Click here for the "Getting Started Guide"
  • Regarding signing up in WebAssign... I have uploaded the class roster from the "Student Information System" (aka SIS) into WebAssign.  If you are not registered properly for the class, you will not be able to log into WebAssign.  Your user information is provided in the "Getting Started Guide".  You need this information to log into the system.  If a WebAssign access code did not come with your book, you can purchase it separate online, it runs about $25.
  • Regarding entering solutions in WebAssign... Click here for a pdf version of the "Student Guide." Pages 19-23 in particular will help guide you in formatting solutions. It is user friendly. You can also find this guide by clicking on the red "Support" tab at the top of the website http://www.webassign.net, and then selecting the "Student Guide."
  • Please note: WebAssign is on a different time zone, so it would appear the due date/time is a day later than it actually is. All assignments are due Sunday at 11:59pm PST. Also note that at times there are computer/internet issues with your service provider and with WebAssign. You are urged to complete the assignment well before the due date and time to ensure proper posting of your grade. I will not credit your score if it was not posted properly.
  • Any webassign problems where you are asked to turn in a paper submission will not be collected, however you still need to attempt the exercises for credit.  The grade will be modified accordingly at the end of the semester.
  • There will likely be a discrepancy between the final grade you see in WebAssign versus the grade you see in WebCampus; please note that WebCampus is the accurate grade.
