MY BACKGROUND

"When you reach for the stars, you may not quite get them, but you won't come up with a handful of mud, either."

--Leo Burnett

"Our business in life is not to get ahead of others, but to get ahead of ourselves--to break our own records, to outstrip our yesterday by our today."

--Stewart B. Johnson

After volunteering from 1987-1989 for a non-profit organization in Argentina, I returned to the states and earned my B.A. degree in Spanish from the University of Utah .  I subsequently obtained my MBA degree from Brigham Young University's Marriott School of Management .  I graduated from the University of Colorado in 1999 with a Ph.D. in Organization Management with emphases in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management and a minor in Organization Communication.

After graduating from the University of Colorado, I joined the Management faculty at Western Illinois University.    At WIU I taught courses in Management, Human Resource Management, Leadership, and Strategic Management.   In addition to my teaching duties, I was also a faculty member in the Learning to Lead Program , a cross-cultural program within Western Illinois University's School of Extended and Continuing Education.  Learning to Lead's primary purpose is to promote and foster the development of a new generation of leaders within the Hispanic community.  Learning to Lead was nominated and selected for the White House Initiative on Educational Excellence for Hispanic Americans.

I joined the Management faculty at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas in the Fall 2002 where I currently teach Organizational Behavior at the MBA and EMBA levels and undergraduate Human Resource Management courses and am engaged in a variety of research projects.    I am currently serving as the Program Assessment Coordinator for the Human Resource Management Major and also serve on the department’s faculty search committee and the College of Business Academic Standards Committee.
